Client Story: Asia and Malani

Asia came to First Coast Women’s Services lost and scared. At only 15 years old, she found herself pregnant for the second time after having an abortion, leaving her traumatized and alone. When she found herself pregnant again, she knew she was going to choose life this time and sought out resources to help her with her daughter Malani. By God’s grace, she found FCWS!

Asia was highly receptive to all of the opportunities presented to her and began to develop strong relationships with the staff and volunteers at FCWS. She was introduced to Embrace Grace and Young Lives, two of our sister programs that serve young moms like Asia. Through this community of support, Asia connected with her church and was baptized earlier this year. Through FCWS, Asia received abortion healing, mentorship, and connection to resources like Embrace Grace and Young Lives that have changed her life forever.

Asia reports that Malani’s needs have been almost completely taken care of by her support network. Asia and Malani’s story was featured at this year’s Denim & Diamonds event to benefit the impactful work being done in Clay County. Three years later, Asia is preparing to enroll in school, purchase her first car, and take her journey full circle by becoming a sonographer/nurse. Through the ministry of FCWS, their lives have been changed and their family has been transformed for generations to come.

A Letter From Jennifer Pace, CEO

Dear Friends of First Coast,

I wish I could share with you the heartbeat of our call center…the beauty of the rescue that is provided every day through the heart connections that are made.

Cheryl, our Call Center Director, and I met today for coffee to connect and to get an update on howthe center is doing. Over the past few months, she has shared with me, “I wish everyone could hearthe beautiful sound I hear every day in the Call Center when every scheduler and nurse is on a call. They are calming fears, scheduling ultrasounds at all of our six centers, and praying with their callers.THAT is a beautiful thing to hear.”

As we have been talking, the lyrics from the song “Awaken My Soul” keep coming to mind:

There is a sound I love to hear

It’s the sound of the Savior’s robe

As He walks into the room where people pray

Where we hear praises

He hears faith.

As I think about the Call Center, I think of the many callers who may not have entered into our doors were it not for the hope they hear through the lines of their phones. One recent caller felt pressured to have an abortion by the father of the baby. He told her she had to have the abortion – so she felt scared and was looking for reassurance somewhere; and like most of our clients, turned to her phone looking for help. Our Call Center nurse encouraged her of her options, helped her to understand the importance of the ultrasound, and after a follow-up call, heard the following message from our client: “I have decided to be a mommy.”

With Mother’s Day approaching, this sweet message makes me tear up a bit. I think about my daughter’s first cry when she was born. I think about her first steps. I think about my first Mother’s Day.

Your gift will allow a mom to celebrate her first Mother’s Day next year.

We are often looking for meaningful gifts to give our moms, to show them we love and care about them. This year, consider making a donation to FCWS in honor of your mom. When making your gift, let us know in the comments section on the giving page of the name of your mom and her address and we send her a card, letting her know you made a gift in honor of her.

What a beautiful gift to give your mom – for her to know there will be a mom who was encouraged to choose life because of your donation.

This gift will be used to expand our Call Center. We have raised approximately $98k towards the $250k we need to expand our call center, and to provide hope and rescue to the most vulnerable among us, the unborn.

Grace and Peace,

Jennifer Pace

DENIM & DIAMONDS HIGHLIGHT

This year’s Denim & Diamonds was a night of fun and celebration! A handful of winners took home incredible prizes that included two luxurious getaways, a platinum and diamond necklace, and delicious cakes and cupcakes. We celebrated the powerful client story of Asia and her daughter Malani. We heard from guest speaker Matt Hammitt about his son Bowen’s fight for life and celebrated in worship. We were blown away by the generosity expressed at this year’s event and we are so grateful to all who attended. The evening was a huge success to support our work in Clay County and the expansion of our call center in Clay. If you would like to re-live the fun of Denim & Diamonds, visit friendsoffirstcoast.org/events/denim-and-diamonds today!
